Eye/Hair Colour Variations?

Please could someone tell me the various combinations for the hypothetical children of this hypothetical couple? I'll include details on their families, too. Thanks.

(In case anyone wonders, I'm using characters from the Harry Potter series)

Lily has dark red hair, an oval shaped face, and almond shaped bright green eyes. Her sister, Petunia has a thin face, blue eyes and blonde hair.

Eileen, Severus' Mum, has brown hair and brown eyes. His father, Tobias, has a hooked nose, black hair and brown eyes. Severus himself has black hair, black eyes and a thin, a hooked nose and a thin, pale face.

Out of four children, which features will they inherit from their parents? I'm curious to know about eye/hair colour variations, and thought actual characters would be easier to work with.

There is no single right or wrong answer to that question (as of now). Nobody knows what causes black eyes (or hazel or gray eyes), the way the green eye gene (gey) works is unclear, and the genetics of hair colour are messy too.

Just to be helpful, I would suggest the following: two with black hair, one with brown hair and one with auburn hair. Everyone will have brown or black eyes. This may not be entirely correct, but nobody should be able to prove you wrong either!

I caution you that, while in basic science text books hair color and eye color are simple recessive/dominant traits, most of these traits are heavily epistatic; that is they are determined by several genes and the probability quickly becomes a nightmare.

Unless you yourself have close relatives (mom, dad, grandparents etc) that have blue eyes... the chances of you having a blue eyed baby are honestly slim to none.

brown is the dominant gene and blue is recessive so unless you have a blue eyed parent or grandparent the chances are slim to none of having a baby with blue eyes

There is a possibility but it's very unlikely that you will have a blue eyed baby. This is because blue eyes is a recessive characteristic while brown eyes is a dominant characteristic and the dominant trait usually appears. The only way for the blue eyes to occur in reality is if you possess the recessive trait of blue eyes as well as your husband. It's highly unlikely for you two to have a blue eyed baby but one of your children can have a blue eyed baby later.

it can be possible...whosever genes are the most dominant will shine through. black hair and black eyes are usually the most dominant but if his genes are stronger then maybe.

Definately a possibility, these things do happen but its all down to genes. I think you should be happy with whatever the baby is blessed with, he or she will be beautiful! Remember dark genes are the dominant ones and tend to make an appearance more often, i.e. your dark hair/his dark hair and your brown eyes.

Yes! My husband is black and I'm caucasian, and my son was born with blue eyes. They've since turned hazel (the color of my eyes), but they really stand out and look amazing against his tan skin.

Only god knows what your baby is gonna look like. Theres always a possibility that your baby can have blue eyes, but i have blue eyes and both my boys came out with hazel, and brown eyes. I don't think anyone ever "said" that a blonde haired, blue eyed woman is the most beautiful, but our society dictates what we think is beautiful. i am blonde, but with green eyes, and i see your point. many gorgeous brunettes are turned away from ad agencys because they dont have the "look". however, natural brown hair is much more beautiful than the peroxide blonde look. i think that if you want to change that "ideal" of a blonde, blue-eyed beauty, start by emphasizing your brown hair or brown eyes. the only way to change the world is to be a part of it. good luck!

Miss Universe is always dark haired because like 90% of the contestants are brunette. Blondes are pretty rare you know, even with all the bleach jobs out there. There is no universal agreement on hair color, blonde is always seen as sexy and glamourous in western countries. Other countries have been influenced by western ideals. A person is not more attractive just because they're blonde and blue eyed. There are pretty and ugly people in every color and race. I hate how so many women are buying into the blonde thing and dying thier hair. I'm a natural blonde and I hate how blonde has become associated with being fake.

I would suggest neither.

Simply becuase red hair washes out very fast, and you are left with dull/boring looking hair within about 5 weeks.

Blonde is a very nice colour, the colour of my own hair, but it takes a long time to get it to that colour and your hair goes through a lot of stress and usually ends up in bad condition (i just got lucky). I think a very nice colour would be perhaps dirty blonde that can be acheieved quick and with no harm doen to the hair, and or dark chocolate brown is very cute.

id go for a dirty blonde, strawberry blonde, or a non-reddish shade of brown. its really hard to know without a picture or you telling us what your natural hair colour is!

but if you really want to dye it, try a medium brown, it will make your eyes pop!

I tried to use a goldwell 11n tint and blonde cream ash with 20 vol on my hair and its gone a light blue/grey colour-what the hell do i do now to get it out?

if it was me and I'm a senior hairdresser and have been in the trade 8 years i would use a bleach bath which is half a scoop of powder lightener 10 vol shampoo and treatment mix well it will work quickly so watch it as you go if you want the ash tone use 11a mixed with 11n but if your has no grey you shouldn't need the 11n but if you like the blonding cream ash use it in foils

the best advice anyone can give you at this point is to go and see a professional hairdresser. doing anything else may cause more damage, make sure that you see a colour consultant not just any hairdresser

on the colour chart, orange cuts blue and makes it neutral.. so use something with an orange tint

Sounds like your hair was processed with 20vol or better before you did this process. This means your hair is going to grab even more so keep this in mind when you try to correct the color.

Use an "auborn" base..not orange or gold. Stay with the cream lines and cut your 20vol in half with water to create 10vol. This way it will totally close the hair shaft (leave it on the full amount of time to allow the shaft to close)

i know how bad it sounds. trust me, i FREAKED OUT when i saw another stylist do it; but it worked.

after shampooing and rinsing spray some nonsudsing amonia in it all over wet hair. comb thru; leave on for about 5 minutes or so (you can SEE the blue come out) and rinse. towel dry ; apply conditioner for 5 minutes and rinse with cool water.

you want to use something with warm golden tones in to get the colour back in to it so maybe something like 10/3 koleston and 6% put all over for a round 20 mins- 30 mins

To get the blue to be bright you'll have to dye it very light as most dyes won't show up on black hair.. Bleaching from black is tough to do, too..

It's recommended that you go to a stylist for it but if you decide to do it online look up how to bleach before you do so. You will probably have to do multiple bleachings, so when you do, take at least a few days off between each one and deep condition like crazy. You will have to tone after you get it to the desired lightness to take out any yellow or orange tones that appear. Do not leave the bleach on for more than 90 minutes and watch carefully to see what's happening.

Apply the bleach to your roots last as those process faster because of the heat from your scalp.

Use foil to keep the rest of your hair from getting bleach on them.

And I recommend using a blue from Special Effects, it's amazing. Last long, and the color selection is great.. plus it's not damaging.

If you try this yourself, your next question will be how to fix the mess you made of your hair. This is one of the most difficult hair color changes to make. Lightening black hair is very difficult. The lightner must be applied evenly, the correct volume of developer must be used, and the timing is critical. Don't try this yourself.

I would suggest that you go to a salon, just because going from black to blonde is a tricky process! Basically, your hair will have to go from black, to dark brown, to brown, to light brown, dark blonde, orange, gold, yellow, blonde, white. The products you but in the store often only go a few shades lighter. To be honest, your hair will be damaged after. It will need a lot of strong bleach! If you are intending on putting the blue on top of ALL the blonde, then you won't need to necessarily go to white. Bear in mind tho, the colour of the blue will depend on how light your hair is, so the brighter and truer you want the blue, the lighter you need to go. If you are going to have both blonde and blue streaks, you would probably not want very white blonde streaks. In Black hair, they look like you are greying. On the other hand, if the bleach isnt strong enough, or you don't leave it on long enough, the streaks will be orangey. I see this look a lot on teenagers especially and it looks gross. If you are determind to do yourself, you will need 40% peroxide, which you can only really get in hairdresser supply shops, or in highlighting kits. But I would STRONGLY suggest you get some clip-in extensions, they are very cheap now, in the colour you are thinking of, and see how they look in your hair mixed with the black. Blue would look awesome, but the blonde needs to be the right shade to look good. Remember that colour is relative to whatever its next to, so a blonde in light brown hair would look like a totally different colour in black hair. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Going to a hair salon that agrees to give you what you want is the best thing to do. Don't bother with hair salons that tell you they can't bleach black hair..Black hair CAN easily be bleached WHITE! I shopped around until I found a hair dresser who gave me what I wanted. If you would like to do this yourself go to a hair supply store and buy: Clairol's Seventh Stage hair lightener + activating powder packets to mix into this liquid. A liquid cream bleach developer in 30, use Clairol's. A 40 volume works if you are in a hurry. People hesitate to recommend 40, but I used 40 before and there was no extra hair damage, just less waiting time. Buy some Manic Panic in one of the many cool blue colors they have out! Another option is to buy Jazzing in Mood Indigo by Clairol. Same type of thing except the Jazzing will improve your hair texture but will drip everywhere when you put it on. Don't forget a toner..don't use one with ammonia or peroxide..it'll damage your hair even more. I use Jazzing in Icicle. It has a slight purple color, and that will remove the yellow that bleaching dark hair will leave. I use Seventh Stage because it is made for bleaching Black hair to Blonde/White. Fast. It also has a double "drabbing" action. Drabbing gets rid of the brassy reddish orangey yellow tones dark hair ALWAYS gets when it's lightened, even just a little. Ever use Sun-In? Now you get my point. After you are all done with your coloring, use a Frizz-Ease type of spray to seal the color in and to protect and strengthen your hair. In about a month of using this alone, your hair will be soft again. Good Luck!

to change your hair color when bleaching is involved my suggestion to you is get a salon to do it. the dye sold in stores is not as good as the ones in a salon, and they can bleach it and add a color toner to it if its to light. at home you get what you pay for.
