Wondering about hair color...?

I'm looking to dye my hair blue, a really shocking bright, lighter blue color. Right now my hair is a really orange color (my natural hair color, not dyed). It's not a really dark red, but it's definitely not strawberry blond ... it's just orange.

My questions are these...

1) can i successfully dye my hair blue without bleaching it first?

2) how long can i expect "semi-permanent" dye to stay in my hair? it doesn't have a "10-12" washes or anything like that in the directions, just "semi permanent".

In short, no. You need to bleach.

And semi permenants will "grab" and last longer than expected on pre-bleached hair. However, there will always be a degree of fade, so you'll need to reapply the blue after a time.

Some things to consider:

-Choose a bleach which can be used on scalp.

-Don't bleach beyond the palest yellow stage of colouring. We're talkin the inside of a banana peel pale yellow. If you do, your hair will break off. You want your hair to stay as in tact as possible during this process!

-Choose a blue with a very small percentage of violet incorporated to counteract %26amp; subdue the pale yellow undertones produced during the bleaching process. Be aware, the violet wont actually show up - only the blue will. Its purpose is only to help you get a cleaner, more vibrant blue tone.

-As your hair grows out, you will need to re-bleach the natural hair thats coming out - and be careful not to overlap onto already bleached hair. Basically, follow the same steps on your regrowth only.

the dye will probably stay in your hair for a week or 2 because that's how long it stayed in my friend's hair when he dyed his red but i'm not sure how blue dye will react with orange hair. Sorry i couldn't be more help.

no u can't it will get a shade of greeen unless you bleach it till its white (which weakens your hair) semi permanent dye generally won't show on your hair unless its bleached however it washes out bit by bit with every wash usually looks good about two washes later. keep it moisturized so it'll look healthy if yo do decide otherwise its a mjor desaster.

1) blue and orange are compliments on the color wheel. If you mix them you will get a neutral color so it will in fact be a muddy color. You will not get the shocking bright, lighter blue unless your hair was bleached to start with.

2) a semi permanent hair color will last 6-8 weeks or depending on how often you wash your hair (As in Natural Instincts by Clariol)
